Davis Cup

Hi all,  i would just like to say a big thank you to all of you who commented on my Davis Cup performance and my rather long match in the play-offs. It was such a tremendous honour to play for Great Britain. It has given me so much confidence and i have learnt so much that now i feel like i’ m better player just from 2 weeks. I just hope i can play myself into the next match and have a better team result! Thanks again for the support.

I’m really glad you did get to realise one of your dreams, Chris, though like you said, would’ve been even better if it had been part of a winning team. Just to let you know, although a lot of people did come to see Andy Murray I know that I, and lots of other people, really got behind the team and really enjoyed getting to see you and the other boys play (for once! Challengers and Futures should be televised more.) You and the other boys really look like you have the potential to move up the rankings, especially you and Josh look like you should be in the top 100 someday. I was really impressed by your aggressive style of play, not afraid to come into the net and not intimidated by the higher ranking opponents – which I would say is absolutely the right thing to do. Not to be overly critical, but in the improvement area I think maybe you need to mix it up a bit more in terms of tactics, otherwise I just worry that opponents will figure you out too quickly, and the really tricky guys right at the top are always dangerous because they’re so versatile. Don’t take that the wrong way, you know your game better than I do.

What’s the word on Davis Cup in September? Although I suppose you don’t know anything yet. With Andy hopefully coming back there’s been some speculation about the team line up and most people seem to think that Ross and Josh will be retained, with a question mark over the fourth spot and someone being dropped. Tbh I’d hate to see any of you being dropped, all of you did a great job, fought hard, made a team to be proud of.

Drop us a line about how it goes in Bath and Jersey. Look like nice little tournies. Be nice to see how it’s going for you and the others but of course university keeps me busy and Monte Carlo has emptied my coffers… wish there was more notice on Futures and Challengers! By the way, I did say university was hard… but I reckon you’re more than intelligent enough to pursue that if you wanted to, so maybe something to think about for something to do after the tennis career.

That’s great news about your confidence, just got to keep that going now. So much of form is made up partly by confidence. Pretty much true in any sport, whether it be you in tennis or me in martial arts. That play off sure was an epic, really well done. God, can’t believe I’ve rambled on so long. Fingers crossed for you that Lloydy selects you for the September team.

Hi! I hear things have been up and down since DC, I hope more up than down though. Just noticed how close Queens is now! Wow, it rolls round fast doesn’t it? Seems like just a handful of weeks ago I was at Wimbledon. Anyway, just wondered if you might get into the qualifying at Queens, or maybe the LTA will give you a wild card? Have they said anything to you yet? It must be great to play in front of a big home crowd, and judging by last year I think the British public would give you an enthusiastic welcome!
